Freshly recruited staff participate in the Oath-taking ceremony at Soroti University

Soroti University has this morning sworn in new members into the service of Soroti University. Economist Lillian Nabiryo, Mr. Oloya Stephen and Mrs. Agnes Wazemwa Wabuyi, has today taken official oath and oath of secrecy to serve as a member of Council representing Ministry of finance planning and economic development in the Soroti University council and will also be a member in the finance committee of Council, the new university secretary and Senior legal officer respectively.

The University accounting officer and the legal officer were recently recruited to join the management team. Counsel Hellen Atigo who has been the University’s legal officer recently joined judiciary while Mr. Oloya Stephen the incoming University secretary replaces Ms. Ruth Achimo.

Speaking after administering official oath and oath of secrecy, the chief magistrate his Worship Gumtwero Olal Justine cautioned the officers to desist from falling victims to the wave of abuse of office and corruption offences that is currently sweeping the public officers.

It is required by law that some categories of officers take oath to keep official secrets by virtue of their positions. By Official oath and oath of secrecy, this is a public pledge that a person will perform their duties with the promise of doing so truthfully.

By making a public promise, officers are bound not to report, or comment on, facts and events of a confidential nature that they have come to know in the exercise of their office.
