Soroti university has launched the program to develop the curriculum for training nuclear scientists and Engineers in the country. The working curriculum document will further facilitate consultations on the nuclear science and technology curriculum and course content development for the country.
Speaking during the high-level meeting with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral development, the Vice chancellor highlighted the need to develop a curriculum that will address the needs of the country and produce professionals at different level that will strategically add value to the industry and the country.

The Nuclear science and technology is relevant to this country and therefore must address the human resource gaps. We have enough human resource in the country with the requisite academic qualification to undertake courses at different levels in the nuclear science and technology field.
The curriculum with include those willing to pursue, post graduate qualifications, undergraduate and, diplomas levels. Speaking during the deliberations on the curriculum development, the Acting assistant commissioner nuclear science and application in the ministry in the ministry of energy and mineral development, Mr. Baguma Sabitti highlighted the need to produce professionals at different levels that will work in the nuclear science and technology industry. He assured the University that the government is fully committed to operationalising the centre that will be a cornerstone in producing our nuclear scientists and Engineers in the country.
Accompanied by a team from the ministry who presented case studies and course contents from universities abroad to enrich the curriculum development.
The presentations by the technocrats from the Ministry included case studies from Korea KAIST&KINS University, University of Manchester and Sheffield, China Harbin engineering University, Imperial College London in the UK, Korea KINGS University, and an overview of Russia’s national research Tomsk Polytechnic University.
Prof. Oluka Silas from the university of Botswana, a renown physicist with a focus on radiation and development education was in attendance and contributed immensely in the deliberations to develop the curriculum.
Earlier the university and the team from the ministry of energy hosted Soroti city leadership for a team building meeting to sensitise them on the project being undertaken in Soroti University.

The mayor Soroti city Hon. Joshua Edogu appreciated the efforts of the University and the ministry in engaging the political leaders in the city and pledged their commitment to include Soroti University needs in the city’s development plans.
He cautioned fellow politicians not to take the path of wasting people’s time and misleading the population but to support government projects. The leaders were taken on a guided tour of the university and the cite where the Centre for nuclear science and technology will be established.
