The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and Soroti University have instituted a Joint Working Group that will steer the implementation of the National Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST).
During the three-day consultative meeting which took place from 14th -16th January 2025, at Soroti University, the establishment of the Joint Working Committee is contained in Article 4 of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and Soroti University in 2023.
The Joint Working Group will oversee the establishment and development of the centre.

The University has already designated land measuring up to 45 acres (20 hectares) for the project. The centre will be used for training and research to equip the required human resources that will operate and manage the nuclear facility at the centre and related nuclear science infrastructure in the country.

Soroti University has also allocated coordination office space for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. The Government of Uganda through Soroti University is determined to promote nuclear science and technology for peaceful purposes. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and Soroti University in collaboration with the Atomic Energy Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency has now embarked on developing relevant information for sensitization of different stakeholders on the establishment of the Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology in Uganda.
