SENA Foundation pledges more support to Soroti University.

The SENA Foundation in Uganda has pledged to lobby for more support to Soroti University. This was revealed by the Chairperson SENA Foundation Uganda Mr. Caner Akgun, during the meeting with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ikoja John Robert in his office recently.

Speaking during his visit to Soroti University to inspect the mosque project constructed by the Turkish donors, Mr. Caner Akgun informed the Vice Chancellor that Sena twelve years’ existence in Uganda has overseen development projects in areas of relief, drilling boreholes, Education etc.  

The two discussed a range of issues aimed at strengthening the bilateral cooperation between Soroti University and the Turkish government. The two agreed to enter a Memorandum of Understanding between SENA Foundation and Soroti University aimed at further strengthening the already cordial relationship existing between the two countries.

 Caner Akgun promised to connect Soroti University to several other NGOs in Turkey that offers support in terms of scholarships and fostering partnership between Soroti University and Universities in Turkey.

He said SENA has established a primary school in Orom, Kitgum, three Tailoring Schools offering free skills in Kampala, A secondary school in Kajjansi, Kampala and currently undertaking a project to establish a nursery teacher training school among others.

Welcoming the SENA Chairperson Mr. Caner Akgun, who was accompanied by the country manager Mr. Fereset Hasanov, Prof Ikoja thanked SENA for the support and other donations, the willingness to lobby for the projects to support the University and assured SENA that there is enough land to implement more projects to benefit the University, community and Teso at large.

 He further requested SENA for the Solar motorized water source to provide a constant water supply  for the mosque, an Ambulance for the University, scholarships and exchange programs, supporting the University Medical Centre, Skilling Centre and a conference facility that will help host Muslim activities in the region. He further implored SENA to establish their contact address in Soroti so as to serve this part of the country. “Build your offices here Soroti University is ready to accommodate you” Prof. said.

Prof Ikoja informed his guests that Soroti University council has allocated enough land to the Muslim faith to put development structures to support the University Muslim community, Teso and Uganda at large.
