Police boost University security ahead of graduation, donates patrol vehicle.

Security at Soroti University has received a major boost following the donation of a patrol vehicle by the Uganda Police Force ahead of the institution’s maiden graduation ceremony scheduled for December 13th, 2025.

The vehicle UP 5600 patrol car is expected to improve surveillance, emergency response, and general safety for students, staff, and thousands of guests anticipated to attend the historic event.

Speaking during a brief handover ceremony at the police headquarters Kampala the Director Logistics and Engineering, AIGP Eng. James Apora said the donation reflects the Police Force’s commitment to supporting education institutions and ensuring that students’ safety is not compromised and supporting high-profile events take place at the university.

“With the upcoming first graduation, it is important that all security gaps are addressed. This patrol vehicle will enhance our operational presence and enable timely response to any incident within and around the university,” he noted.

The University Vice Chancellor welcomed the support, describing it as timely and essential. The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Uganda Police Force for strengthening their security systems, emphasizing that the upcoming graduation has drawn nationwide attention.

“The gesture further cements the cooperation between Soroti University and the Police. As a young and fast-growing institution, safety remains a priority, and this vehicle will greatly enhance our capacity to maintain a secure campus,” the Vice Chancellor said.

The Chief Security Officer, SSP Ojok Jimmy Enada pledged to intensify joint operations, patrols, and surveillance measures to secure the different hostels where the students reside. Additional deployment of officers is expected during the graduation week to ensure smooth entry, movement, and general safety of attendees. Police authority has also pledged to provide the university with adequate manpower once the construction of accommodation for university police is completed.

The maiden graduation ceremony, which marks a significant milestone in the university’s development, will see the first cohort of students receive their degrees. The event is expected to attract government leaders, parents, partners, and members of the public from across the country.

With the boost in security and increased cooperation between the university and law enforcement agencies, Ojok say they are confident of delivering a safe and memorable ceremony.
