Soroti City, Uganda – Soroti University has recognized exemplary student leadership during its inaugural Guild Leadership Awards Ceremony, held at Hotel May 7 in Soroti City.

The event celebrated the achievements of the University’s 4th guild government headed by Mr. Ocen Wilfred who was praised for leading an inclusive government, promoting student welfare and demonstrating professionalism.
Delivering her remarks, Ms. Zaitun Okot the Dean of Students described the ceremony as a significant move for Soroti University, citing it as the first formal recognition of a guild government for exemplary service.
The Dean of Students commended the fourth guild government for promoting unity, collaboration and student welfare noting it as an inspiration to the newly elected guild government to uphold a legacy of servant leadership, dialogue and academic excellence.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor Mr. Lawrence Too-Okema commended the outgoing guild government for demonstrating maturity, discipline and professionalism throughout its tenure.

He emphasized the effectiveness of leadership in building discipline, integrity, teamwork, and respect for institutional values. He encouraged the new guild government to embrace time management, accountability, ethical conduct and continuous dialogue with the University administration in addressing students’ concerns.

The inaugural guild leadership award ceremony is a sign that the university acknowledges exception p performance and nurturing future leaders. Several awards were given to the outgoing 2025/2026 guild cabinet for their outstanding leadership exhibited during their term in office.
