With the first cohort of pioneer medicine and nursing students set to graduate in 2025 and the second set of nursing students in their final year, Soroti University has embarked on developing curriculum for master’s program.
According to the assessment conducted, respondents and health technocrats in the region recommended Soroti university to start master programs and specifically Master of Public Health. (MPH)

During the curriculum development workshop at the university, the head of department public health who is also taking the lead in developing the curriculum Dr. Opito Ronald, said Master of Public Health was ranked highest, followed by Bachelor of Public Health, Health services management among others.
Master of public health being a multi-disciplinary field, health practitioners in the region and the surrounding areas will benefit from the program.
This will draw candidates from the already medical practitioners in the field and the pioneer students from Soroti university who would want to advance their career.
During the workshop, presenters shared experiences and insights on similar programs from other universities. Dr. Simon Omeke Icumar, shared experiences from Australia. Dr. Bonny Oriekot of TASO shared experiences on online and distance learning around the world.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor implored the team to move faster to have the program established. With the anatomy block under completion, the requirements needed by the NCHE as a benchmark to mounting a program like senate, directorate of graduate school research ethics committee and ICT infrastructure in place, the University is hopeful the program can admit first cohort of master students in 2025/2026 academic year.
The university is also in the final stages of starting Bachelor of Midwifery program.
