Staff at Soroti University have undergone specialized training aimed at strengthening their capacity to produce high-quality scholarly articles and impactful policy briefs.
The one-day capacity building training brings together academic staff, researchers, and administrative personnel. The training focused on improving research communication, translating academic findings into policy-relevant formats and enhancing publication output. The training organised by the department of Research and Innovation has seen the staff undergo a total of four capacity building trainings in the areas of data analysis, a thematic reviews, Intellectual property management and now the scholarly and policy brief writing training

Guided by facilitators from Mr. Ogulli Francis, Dr. Etyang Patrick and Dr. Peter Opio from Busitema university, participants were taken through key elements of scholarly writing, including structuring journal articles, adhering to academic standards and navigating peer-review processes with emphasis placed on policy brief development, skills to navigate complex research into concise, accessible documents tailored for policymakers and stakeholders.

This initiative aligns with Soroti University’s broader goal of boosting research visibility and influence, particularly in addressing local and national development challenges. By equipping staff with these skills, the institution aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical policy implementation.
Participants welcomed the training, noting that it would not only improve their individual writing capabilities but also elevate the university’s research profile. The acquired skills would enable the team to contribute more effectively to evidence-based research that will enhance the profile of the university.
