SOROTI, Uganda – Soroti University has strengthened its leadership and administrative capacity with the appointment of 76 staff members to various positions across the institution, including senior academic, administrative and support staff.
Among the notable appointments is Prof. Patrick Engeu Ogwang, who has been appointed Head of the Department of Pharmacology. A renowned Ugandan pharmacologist, researcher and innovator, Prof. Ogwang brings extensive experience in higher education, tropical medicine, pharmaceutical research and scientific innovation.

His appointment is expected to strengthen Soroti University’s research agenda, particularly in health sciences, while contributing to the University’s vision of becoming a centre of excellence in science, technology, innovation and community transformation.
The University also confirmed the appointment of Gilbert Denis Otim as the University Bursar. A Certified Public Accountant and member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), Otim has served as the Acting University Bursar following the departure of CPA Robert Magemeso. Prior to this appointment, he served as Deputy University Bursar for eight years.
Mr. Otim holds a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance, a Master of Business Administration from Makerere University, a Master of Public Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from Uganda Management Institute (UMI), a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Uganda Martyrs University, a Bachelor of Science with Education from Kyambogo University and has also undertaken Administrative Law training at the Law Development Centre among other.


Omoding joined Soroti University in 2016 as a University Planner and steadily rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief Planning Officer before serving in an acting capacity following the resignation of Mr. Otuba Samuel.
Mr. Omoding holds a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management and a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Mathematics from Makerere University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Uganda Management Institute, and a Diploma in Secondary Education from the Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK). His extensive experience in strategic planning and institutional development is expected to strengthen the University’s planning and performance management functions.

The University Council also renewed the contract of Augustine Okuku Maloba as Chief Human Resource Officer, reaffirming confidence in his leadership and contribution to human resource management within the institution.
These appointments represent a significant milestone in strengthening Soroti University’s leadership as the institution continues to expand its academic programmes,
research portfolio, innovation agenda and community engagement initiatives. The newly appointed officials will provide strategic leadership and help drive the University’s continued growth. The appointment of accomplished professionals reflects Soroti University’s commitment to excellence, accountability, innovation and transformative leadership. Their expertise will be invaluable as the University advances its strategic priorities in teaching, research, innovation and community engagement.”
The appointments come at a time when Soroti University is expanding academic programmes, strengthening research partnerships, investing in innovation and improving infrastructure to meet the growing demand for quality higher education in Uganda and the region.

The appointments, approved by the University Council in accordance with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act and the University’s governance framework, are expected to enhance institutional governance, academic excellence, research, innovation and service delivery.
