SOROTI, Uganda – Soroti University has taken a significant step towards strengthening sports development with the formulation of a comprehensive Sports Master Plan that will guide the growth and management of sports and recreation at the institution over the coming years.

The plan outlines key priorities, including the development of world standard modern sports facilities, establishment of sustainable sports programmes, capable of hosting international indoor and outdoor competitions, strengthening sports governance, promotion of inclusive participation for students and staff and strategic partnerships with government agencies, sports federations and development partners.
The university contracted Design Skills Associate based in Kampala to design Sports Complex incorporating all the facilities and amenities. The facilities include the Olympic standard swimming pool, stadium, soft courts and hard courts, kids playing area, people with disabilities among other. The plan will also include offices spaces, suites for accommodation, conference halls etc.

This initiative also aims to improve coaching standards, expand participation in all indoor and outdoor games, support student athletes through structured training programmes and integrate sports into the university’s broader academic and community engagement agenda.
Once adopted, the Sports Master Plan will serve as the guiding policy document for planning, resource mobilisation, infrastructure development and sports programming, positioning Soroti University as a centre for excellence in university sports within Uganda and the East African region.
Th University Accounting officer revealed that the total cost of the sports complex is approximately 39billion shillings, that shall be implemented in phases as resources may allow.
He added that university is committed to investing in sports as an integral component of holistic education, recognizing its contribution to physical well-being, academic success, leadership development, and national development.
