Soroti University inspires learners with AI innovations

JINJA, June 26, 2026 – Soroti University showcased its artificial intelligence (AI) innovations and academic programs during the 3rd career day at the Amazima school in Njeru, Jinja City, inspiring secondary school learners to make informed career and study choices.

The university team engaged students through demonstrations of student-led innovations, including an AI-powered fruit sorting system and the Arapai AI Offline Project, which enables access to learning materials without internet connectivity. The innovations highlighted the University’s commitment to research, technology, and practical solutions to real-world challenges.

ICT staff member Nixon Kamugisha said the projects reflect Soroti University’s focus on equipping students with digital skills while supporting Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.

“These innovations help learners understand emerging career opportunities and make informed decisions before joining university,” he said.

Assistant Academic Registrar, Ms Beatrice Driwaru Fefia, said the career day provided an important platform to guide learners on academic programmes, scholarships and career pathways available at the University, emphasizing the benefits outreaches play in preparing students for the competence-based curriculum and easing their transition to higher education.

“We are here to provide career guidance and listen to learners’ perspectives about the programmes we offer,” she said.
