Soroti university can now have a sigh of relief as government release funds for the completion of the anatomy block which had stalled for years affecting the enrolment of students and affecting establishment of new programs due to lack of space. This is after government released 5bn to the university this financial year towards the completion of the anatomy block.

Last week the university signed a contract with the National Enterprise corporation, a construction subsidiary company of the ministry of defence. The building if completed house the morgue, lecture rooms, offices and other facilities.
The Soroti University accounting officer Mr. Stephen Oloya said Soroti university budgeted for 14.369.658.960 bn towards completion of the block with 9bn shillings budgeted in this financial year. “The balance shall be released in the subsequent financial year” he said.
The Vice chancellor Soroti University Prof. JR Ikoja said the completion of the building will ease pressure of lack of space which will allow the university to establish more programs. The construction which is expected to take one year.
Presiding over the handover ceremony as a chief guest, the special presidential advisor assigned by the president to monitor government programs in Teso and Karamoja, Gen. Peter Elwelu assured the University that the army will do a great job to deliver the project within the agreed time. He pledged to supervise the project himself and ensure quality is done.
Ministry of works, Soroti University department of estates with be on site to supervise the construction works.
