Soroti University hosts MTN ACE Skilling Program Needs Assessment Team

Soroti University ICT Innovation Hub welcomed a high-level delegation from Centenary Technology Services Ltd, National ICT Innovation Hub, and other stakeholders for a needs assessment meeting aimed at establishing the MTN ACE Skilling Program at the University.

The meeting, held at the University’s ICT Innovation Hub, was chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Mr. Lawrence Too Okema, who appreciated the initiative and emphasized the University’s commitment to digital transformation through partnerships that support STEM and innovation.

The ACE Skilling Program, a joint initiative by MTN Uganda, Centenary Technology Services, and the National ICT Hub, aims to equip over 8,000 young people with practical digital skills across four regional hubs in Uganda. Soroti University has been selected as a strategic regional partner in Eastern Uganda.

During the session, Ms. Nawalh Namudiba and Mr. Michael Kiyaga from Centenary Technology Services shared the program’s objectives and infrastructure plans. The team requested space at Soroti University to set up a fully equipped training lab, pledging to provide all necessary ICT resources including laptops, tablets, internet connectivity, and furniture.

University leaders, including the Academic Registrar, Dean of Students, Estates Officer, and faculty members, participated in the discussion, raising important concerns on sustainability, network coverage, student-centered design, and the inclusiveness of the program.

The Assessment concluded with a guided tour of potential facility spaces, including the smart classroom and server room, where measurements were taken for possible installation and network extension.

This development aligns with Soroti University’s broader mission of fostering ICT-driven learning and innovation for regional transformation.
