The second Soroti University Council, chaired by Engineer Dr. Vincent B.A. Kasangaki, has concluded its second four-year term, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history. The first university council constituted in 2018 and led by Francis Xavier Lubanga, was deputized by Engineer Dr. Kasangaki. In 2021, when Lubanga opted to take leave and scale down on his busy schedules, Kasangaki was elected chairperson of the second council.

The council played a crucial role in shaping the university’s strategic direction and overseeing its growth. Engineer Dr. Kasangaki brought expertise and vision to the role, building on the foundation laid by the first council, which was headed by Francis Xavier Lubanga from 2018.
During its tenure, Soroti University made notable strides in academic excellence, research, and community engagement. The university’s medical programs, in particular, received recognition from the National Council for Higher Education and the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council for their commitment to upholding medical education standards.

The council oversaw significant developments in the university’s infrastructure, including progress on the Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology, a joint project with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, construction of Anatomy block that is near completion, and introduction of the new academic programs among others.
As the second council’s term ends, the third Soroti University Council will assume office, with its first business being the election of the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and committee heads. The new council will face the challenge of building on the significant progress made by the previous council.

Soroti University has made notable achievements, emerging as champions in the Uganda National Medical Quiz, demonstrating the quality of its medical students. The University has been working to strengthen its research capabilities, with a focus on innovation and community impact, and donation of medical equipment to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, highlighting its commitment to improving healthcare in the region.
