Soroti University hosts Mountains of the Moon University on a bench-marking visit

Soroti university has continued to play host to upcoming and new universities being established in the country and region as the most preferred destination for benchmarking. The latest to visit is the Mountains of the Moon University top hierarchy.

Welcoming the team from Mountains of the Moon university yesterday May 4, 2023, the Vice Chancellor Soroti University prof, J.R Ikoja received the team headed by Eng. Dr Ben Manyindo the chairperson Council Mountains of the Moon University.

The Vice Chancellor pledged their total commitment to offer guidance and any other support to Mountains of the Moon University to grow and serve the nation.

He said that the University council is the most important organ that links the University with government. “University council is about serving the people not to earn allowances” he added.

He encouraged them to develop their niche that the University will be anchored on. He highlighted the need for transparency.

He encouraged them to carry out the needs assessment to determine the needs of the community and the country to determine the courses the University shall offer.

The Vice Chancellor gave an elaborate lecture on how University operates, challenges and how to manoeuvre through the challenges, funding challenges, collaborations etc.

He added that Soroti University is a willing partner in advocating for better funding of young universities to match their needs for infrastructural and human capital development.

On his part the Chairperson council Mountains of the Moon University, Eng. Dr Ben Manyindo thanked Soroti university for accepting to host them. He explained that Mountains of the Moon is interested in creating partnership and collaboration with Soroti University to develop the required human capital for this country.

 He informed the meeting that Mountains of the Moon is passionate to learn more about ICT as the driver in delivering knowledge and research, integrating ICT to the mission and vision of the university. Governance issues and funding of young universities, partnerships and collaborations.

The entourage from Mountains of the Moon University included the Vice chairperson, Robert Odok Oceng, Coxwell Achenga Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Mkasenene, deputy Vice chancellor, Retired Justice Akiiki Kiza , council member and chair students affairs committee, Dr Roseline Nyamukale, Dr  Stephen Tusiime, Geoffrey Segamwenge, Betty Mujungu Tusiime, Prof. Peter Lating, Christopher Aheebwa and Rutaremwa Victor. Mountains of the moon opened as a government University on the July 1 2022.
