The very first Soroti University Staff Tribunal has been sworn in. This follows the appointment of Hon. Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo as the Chairperson of the Tribunal by the Chancellor, Prof. Francis Omaswa in June 2024 in accordance with Section 56 (1) (a) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act (UOTIA), 2001 as amended.
Hon. Justice Dr Henry Adonyo is the current judge of the Soroti High Court. The swearing-in was conducted by the Registrar of Soroti High Court, His Worship Sayekwo Emmy Geoffrey and witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Lawrence Too-Okema.
The mandate of the staff Tribunal is to resolve conflicts, disputes and grievances arising out of sanctions made against the University staff.
While delivering his first speech, the Chairperson thanked the Chancellor for considering him fit for the appointment. He emphasizes the importance of the Tribunal in settling staff grievances. He encouraged all the members to exercise fairness in executing the tasks without fear and favour.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor thanked the Chairperson and members for accepting the assignment. He assured them of the necessary support while executing their duties.
All the appointed members took the official oath and oath of secrecy as required in the Laws of Uganda. They were:
